Funding moves up timeline on projects

The Safe Roads Measure "I" expenditure plan contains an ambitious blueprint of roadway corridor improvements designed to keep the regional economy moving over the next 26 years.

In the Antelope Valley region, $9.4 million in measure funds will help widen Twenty Mule Team Road from California City to Route 58; another $9.4 million for North Gate Road from California City to Route 58; $5.4 million for a grade separation over the Union Pacific Railroad at Rosamond Avenue; and $5.4 million to extend K Street over State Route 14 in Mojave.

Near Arvin-Lamont, work will continue to widen State Route 223 from Commanche Road to State Route 99 for $11 million, and on Wheeler Ridge Road from SR 223 to Interstate 5 for $15 million.

In the Frazier Park region, $5.5 million in measure funds will help relieve congestion on local roads during the winter.

Roughly $3.3 million has been budgeted to widen State Route 14 from State Route 178 to Red Rock Canyon, while another $3 million will go to construct a new interchange on SR 395 at China Lake Boulevard.

Near Lake Isabella, $12.25 million in measure funds will help widen Sierra Highway and the South Fork Bridge.

In Bakersfield, the measure anticipates $90 million to help construct the Centennial Corridor Loop; $60 million for a beltway system; $32.8 million improvements to the Rosedale Highway/24th Street corridor; and $48 million to help widen SR 178 east from Fairfax Road.

Roughly $20.8 million has been budgeted to widen State Route 46 from the San Luis Obispo County Line to Interstate 5, while another $30.8 million will be dedicated for SR 46 from I-5 to Wasco. About $10.8 million will go toward improving the SR 99 interchange at Woollomes Road, and another $12.8 million to widen Santa Fe Way from Hageman Road to Los Angeles Avenue.

In the Maricopa-Taft region, work will continue to widen State Route 119 from Interstate 5 to Tupman Road. Roughly $17.4 million in measure funds will go toward that goal.

Finally, near Tehachapi, $6.29 million in measure funds will help widen State Route 202 from Tehachapi-Woodford to Cummings Valley Road; while another $2.24 million will go toward widening SR 202 from Tucker to Tehachapi-Woodford Road. An interchange improvement at SR 58 and Dennison Road will use $6 million in measure funds; and Valley Boulevard, from Tucker to Curry, -- will receive $7.7 million for widening.
